Digital FBI Fingerprinting or Fingerprint Cards: Which Option Fits?

The right option depends on the required submission route, not simply whether a scanner is available. Digital capture can support different services, including a printed fingerprint card. Electronic submission and a physical card are different deliverables. Confirm your recipient’s instructions, purpose and eligibility before choosing an FBI fingerprinting appointment; do not assume one electronic service is available to every applicant.

Your next step

Office fingerprinting appointment. The available FBI report route depends on the applicant and purpose; confirm eligibility if unsure.

Capture method is not the submission route

A technician may use a scanner to capture fingerprints, but the agreed output could be a card for a separate process. Conversely, an electronic report-support service must have an identified, permitted submission route. Ask what leaves the appointment and what happens afterward.

The practical booking question is: “Am I buying cards only, or does this service include help with a report request?” That distinction is more useful than comparing “digital” and “ink” as if they were complete packages.

Check the applicant and the purpose

Departmental Order channeler service is limited to U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents physically in the United States or its territories. A person outside that category should not be offered the same route automatically.

An agency screening for employment or licensing also needs its own appropriate process. Keep those instructions separate from a personal record request; a personal FBI report is not a universal replacement for an agency check.

When cards are the requested output

Bring the instructions and any form supplied by your receiving authority. Ask about its accepted card format, required number of originals and whether it accepts digitally printed impressions. Do not select a form from a general website and assume it fits every program.

If you already have cards, explain when and for which request they were taken. Existing cards should be reviewed against the new request; their presence alone does not prove they can be reused.

Choose the next step before comparing turnaround

Tell Oraz Fingerprinting your requesting organization, location and purpose, and whether you need cards, a report or both. Confirm available service details on the main FBI service page before paying.

For international use, mention the destination and any apostille or translation requirement. Fingerprint capture, report processing and document authentication have separate schedules. Faster capture does not eliminate later stages.

Questions about this topic

Are digitally printed cards the same as an electronic submission?

No. A printed card remains a physical output; an electronic submission sends data through a particular authorized route.

Can a noncitizen use an electronic option?

Do not decide from citizenship alone. Lawful permanent residence, current location, purpose and the specific route matter; verify the available option first.

Should I book again if I already have cards?

Ask for a requirements check first. Another capture is appropriate only when needed for the agreed request.
