Which Fingerprinting Is Needed for a Florida Contractor License?

Clarify the application and the person being checked

Identify the contractor classification and the individual named in the fingerprint requirement. A company name alone does not establish which person must be fingerprinted. Show the relevant application or deficiency notice rather than booking one scan for an entire business. Ask DBPR to resolve any uncertainty about who is subject to its check.

Do all workers on the project need the same check?

Do not assume so. The licensing request for a contractor is separate from requirements a project owner, school district or regulated facility may impose on workers entering its premises. Explain whether the request concerns the professional license or access to a particular jobsite. Two checks mentioning FDLE or FBI are not automatically the same submission.

Prepare the licensing fingerprint step

Use the current application instructions and confirmed construction routing. DBPR’s general direction says to submit the license application before the fingerprint submission. Bring the required identification and keep name details consistent across documents. If a separate site-access process specifies its own vendor or registration, follow that instruction rather than replacing it with a construction-license ORI.

What happens if a permit or start date is close?

A local capture appointment cannot guarantee the time DBPR needs to review the complete license file. Keep the receipt and TCN, and identify the exact missing item if the application is delayed.
