Start with the actual request
Look for the message, application checklist or appointment document from your employer, board or program. Search that document for ORI, fingerprinting and background screening. If it refers to an online registration, ask whether completing that step produces the instructions you need.
Tell the requesting organization that you want the correct fingerprinting instructions for your particular application, rather than asking for any ORI used in your profession. Keep its written response with your appointment information.
Why a number from a colleague may not fit
Two people with similar work can be applying through different organizations or programs. A directory is a useful reference, but it does not replace confirmation for your own application. For DBPR applications, missing or incorrect ORI information can prevent the department from receiving the results.
A personal FBI report is a separate product; buying one because the ORI is missing can leave the original agency requirement unresolved.
What to have ready for Oraz Fingerprinting
