Are EMTs, Paramedics and Pharmacy Technicians Exempt From Florida Healthcare Fingerprinting?

Florida HealthSource lists EMTs, paramedics, pharmacy interns, registered pharmacy technicians and radiologic technologists as exceptions to the healthcare-practitioner screening requirement under section 456.0135(1)(b), unless applying through the military active-duty spouse licensure pathway. This does not mean that every job or program involving those professionals is exempt from all background checks.

Your next step

Confirm the requested service before arranging a visit. A question or quote request is not a confirmed appointment.

What does this exception actually cover?

It concerns the specified DOH professional-licensure screening requirement. EMT means Emergency Medical Technician. A pharmacy technician or intern should not select the licensed-pharmacist category simply because both work in a pharmacy. A general healthcare advertisement cannot determine whether an exception applies to your exact professional application.

Can an employer still require fingerprints?

Yes, a separate workplace, facility or agency request must be evaluated on its own terms. For example, professional licensure and employment in a regulated care setting are different questions. If an employer asks for screening, obtain the program instructions rather than rejecting the request solely because your profession appears in this exception list.

When should you ask for clarification before paying?

Ask whether the request is for initial or renewal licensure, the military active-duty spouse pathway, employment or another program. Identify the authority and actual missing requirement. If no fingerprint request applies, do not buy an unrelated check as a precaution: the wrong product will not establish professional compliance.

What should I prepare before booking?

If a separate fingerprint requirement has been confirmed, bring the actual program instructions and required identification. Ask the receiving organization which identifiers and provider are accepted before booking. Do not initiate an unrelated practitioner screening just because a website lists healthcare services.

Does your program ask for an ORI?

Identify the requesting program first. Use the directory as a reference and confirm the correct value with the organization before submission.
