Do Dentists and Dental Hygienists Need Fingerprints in Florida?

Florida dental licensing applicants should check the current DOH background-screening requirements for their exact license and application. Dentist, dental hygienist, dental laboratory and dental radiographer are not interchangeable descriptions. A dental-office job title alone does not identify the licensing request, and an office's employee background check is not automatically the professional licensing screening.

Which dental application is being reviewed?

The Board of Dentistry regulates multiple professional and business categories. Confirm whether your application concerns an individual license, a registration, a laboratory or another listed category. Use the exact description in the board instructions rather than assuming every person working in a dental office follows the dentist's process. Bring any correspondence that explains what is missing from your file.

Why might an existing licensee be asked now?

Florida's policy beginning July 1, 2025 expanded screening for screened healthcare professions at initial licensing and renewal. If your account requests screening, review current instructions instead of relying on what happened at your last renewal. If you already have retained state-and-national results, ask whether DOH can use them before paying for another appointment.

What can delay the dental licensing step?

A capture receipt does not resolve every missing item. Results must belong to the proper request and be available to the Department under its privacy and Clearinghouse requirements. The board may also be waiting for unrelated application documents. Keep the TCN and ask which specific deficiency remains. Fingerprinting does not decide whether your education, examination or other qualifications satisfy the board.

How should I prepare for the fingerprinting appointment?

Before booking, tell Oraz Fingerprinting which license, board and application type the request concerns. Have the current instructions and any CHAI confirmation available. For a DOH screening, follow the current Clearinghouse process, including the required privacy affirmation. Check whether retained results can be used before paying for fresh fingerprints; a renewal notice does not automatically mean another capture is necessary.

Your appointment instructions provide the appropriate ORI and identification requirements. The separate ORI guide can help explain that identifier, but the requesting authority confirms the route. Bring the requested ID to the appointment and keep the TCN afterward. Fingerprint capture, agency review and issuance of your license are separate stages; Oraz does not decide professional eligibility.

Does your program ask for an ORI?

Identify the requesting program first. Use the directory as a reference and confirm the correct value with the organization before submission.

Questions about this topic

Does every receptionist or dental assistant use a dentist's screening?

No blanket rule follows from working in a dental office. Confirm the person's actual role and requesting program.

Is the dental employer's private background report enough?

Do not assume that it replaces the DOH licensing submission.

Can the provider guarantee my dental license will be issued?

No. The licensing authority reviews the full application; capture is one supporting step.
