Do You Need a Florida ORI for a Personal FBI Report?

A personal FBI Identity History Summary is not the same request as a Florida agency background screening. Do not look for a Florida employer’s ORI simply because a foreign visa authority asked for an FBI report. First confirm the exact document and its purpose. If a U.S. employer or licensing agency requested its own screening, follow that program’s instructions instead of substituting a personal report.

Your next step

Office fingerprinting appointment. The available FBI report route depends on the applicant and purpose; confirm eligibility if unsure.

Start with the document, not the abbreviation

Ask what the recipient actually wants to receive. “FBI background check” can be used loosely in everyday conversation, while the written instruction may name a personal report, agency screening or fingerprint card. Bring the original requirement when asking about an appointment.

For a foreign visa or residence application, also keep the country, recipient and stated document-age requirement available. An apostille or translation question is a further step; it does not determine which fingerprints request was needed in the first place.

Why the two routes should stay separate

The FBI distinguishes personal Identity History Summary requests from U.S. employment and licensing checks. Choosing a product with “FBI” in its name does not make it interchangeable with the screening an agency requires.

Similarly, an FD-258 card is a physical record of fingerprints, not the completed FBI report. Clarify whether your order is for capture only, report support or a later document-authentication stage.

Confirm eligibility before selecting digital processing

Not every applicant can use the same channeler route. The FBI limits Departmental Order channeler requests to U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents physically in the United States or its territories. That route does not cover U.S. employment or licensing requests.

Tell Oraz Fingerprinting the purpose and your current location when discussing options. Applicant category may also need to be clarified. Do not send immigration documents, SSN or passport images through Guides; the initial discussion is about identifying the suitable service.

What to choose on the main website

Use the FBI service page when your question concerns a personal FBI report or the fingerprints needed for that route. If an organization supplied Florida agency instructions, return to that agency path.

When the report will be used abroad, explain whether you already have fingerprints, cards or an official report. This helps avoid automatically ordering a new capture when the actual task is a later stage.

Questions about this topic

Does having a Florida address mean I need an ORI?

No. The purpose and requested screening route matter; residence alone does not turn a personal FBI request into a Florida agency submission.

Can my personal report replace a U.S. licensing screening?

Do not assume so. The FBI separates personal requests from employment and licensing procedures.

Can a non-U.S. citizen ask about FBI report support?

Yes, but the applicable route must be confirmed. Do not assume that the Departmental Order channeler option is available to every applicant.
