How Does Fingerprinting Work for Florida Teacher Certification?

Florida educator certification requires the applicable fingerprint-based background screening. DOE means Department of Education. Public-school employees generally coordinate fingerprints through their district personnel office, while nonpublic and other certification situations follow the appropriate DOE instructions. A private scan ordered without those instructions may not complete the certification requirement.

Is certification the same as applying for a school job?

Educator certification is a state credential; the district or school also has an employment process. A Statement of Status of Eligibility, often called an SOE, explains a certification applicant’s status but is not itself proof that every remaining step is finished. Ask the employer which action it must take for your certification and which fingerprint instructions apply.

Why should you check current instructions?

DOE notes that fingerprint-processing instructions changed in April 2025. Traditional and charter public-school employees generally use district personnel arrangements. Approved nonpublic schools have their own certification-related responsibilities. Someone who has not yet been employed should consult the DOE category that describes their situation rather than copying a working teacher’s receipt or selecting a convenient general Live Scan appointment.

Who receives and evaluates the result?

The certification process involves the required FDLE and FBI checks and submission to Educator Certification through the proper route. A scan receipt does not issue a teaching certificate. If further review or another capture is needed, follow the employer’s or DOE’s instructions. Ask whether prior district fingerprints are usable before paying for a new, unrelated request.

What should you confirm before fingerprinting?

Ask the requesting organization for its current screening instructions, any required registration and the identifiers for your application. ORI identifies the agency route; an OCA may identify the organization within a particular program. Bring the requested identification. For a Hallandale Beach visit, show Oraz Fingerprinting those instructions so the team can confirm the available service before booking.

Does your program ask for an ORI?

Identify the requesting program first. Use the directory as a reference and confirm the correct value with the organization before submission.
