Who needs fingerprinting? Jobs & licenses

Do Home Health Aides, HHAs and Caregivers Need Fingerprinting?

HHA means home health aide. A home-care job may require fingerprint-based screening through the agency responsible for the provider. AHCA’s screening categories include home health agencies, nurse registries and homemaker/sitter/companion services. A training certificate, a professional license and an employer background screening are different things.

Why can non-nursing care work require screening?

Hands-on care is not the only relevant activity. Access to a client’s home, belongings or funds can also matter within regulated services. A companion or sitter should therefore ask the hiring organization which category applies. Conversely, do not assume every private arrangement between individuals follows the same agency process as employment with a regulated home-health provider.

Does an HHA certificate include the check?

A course or training certificate documents the training it covers. It does not by itself establish that the employer’s required screening has been completed. Ask separately about training, screening eligibility and any other hiring requirements. If you are also a CNA or nurse, mention existing screening records; your employer should determine whether they meet its program requirements.

Changing agencies or starting your first care job

Before booking, identify the hiring provider and whether it has initiated the required Clearinghouse process. A new employer may need to associate you with its organization or review an existing record. Keep your capture receipt and transaction reference, but ask the employer about final eligibility rather than treating the receipt as a work clearance.

What should you confirm before fingerprinting?

Ask the requesting organization for its current screening instructions, any required registration and the identifiers for your application. ORI identifies the agency route; an OCA may identify the organization within a particular program. Bring the requested identification. For a Hallandale Beach visit, show Oraz Fingerprinting those instructions so the team can confirm the available service before booking.

Does your program ask for an ORI?

Identify the requesting program first. Use the directory as a reference and confirm the correct value with the organization before submission.
