Do Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists Need Florida Fingerprinting?

SLP means Speech-Language Pathologist. Florida regulates speech-language pathology and audiology through its healthcare licensing framework. A state professional license and a school's employment or certification request are not automatically the same screening. Identify whether you are applying to the healthcare board, a school district or an employer before choosing the service.

Why does a school-based SLP need to separate the requests?

A person can work in a school while also holding a professional healthcare license. School district onboarding and DOH licensing may have different recipients and prerequisites. The words school, therapist or background check do not settle which one is required. Ask the organization to name the application and submission instructions it expects.

Does audiology use any hearing-related application?

Audiologist and hearing-aid specialist are not interchangeable licensing descriptions. Use the profession in your own board account, including the exact applicant or assistant category if one is involved. A hearing-related employer's instructions should not automatically be copied into the professional licensing request.

What should I check at initial application or renewal?

Current healthcare screening policy can require attention at either stage. If a prior check exists, ask whether the Department can view and use it under present conditions. Keep the licensing application review separate from transcript, examination and workplace requirements. The appointment obtains fingerprints; the professional board reviews eligibility and the employer handles its own hiring decision.

How should I prepare for the fingerprinting appointment?

Before booking, tell Oraz Fingerprinting which license, board and application type the request concerns. Have the current instructions and any CHAI confirmation available. For a DOH screening, follow the current Clearinghouse process, including the required privacy affirmation. Check whether retained results can be used before paying for fresh fingerprints; a renewal notice does not automatically mean another capture is necessary.

Your appointment instructions provide the appropriate ORI and identification requirements. The separate ORI guide can help explain that identifier, but the requesting authority confirms the route. Bring the requested ID to the appointment and keep the TCN afterward. Fingerprint capture, agency review and issuance of your license are separate stages; Oraz does not decide professional eligibility.

Does your program ask for an ORI?

Identify the requesting program first. Use the directory as a reference and confirm the correct value with the organization before submission.

Questions about this topic

Does SLP stand for a school district screening?

No. It identifies the profession Speech-Language Pathologist; the requesting program must still be identified.

Is an audiologist the same license as a hearing-aid specialist?

No. Use the exact category shown in the licensing instructions.

Will one scan always satisfy school and DOH?

Do not assume that. Ask both requesting organizations whether applicable existing results can be used.
