Wrong ORI on a Fingerprint Submission: What Happens Next?

If you suspect that fingerprints were submitted with the wrong ORI, contact the original provider and the requesting organization with your receipt and instructions. First establish what was actually transmitted. Do not assume the existing transaction can be edited, transferred or reused, and do not purchase a second submission before the appropriate next step is confirmed. The outcome depends on the program and the particular transaction.

Your next step

Confirm the requested service before arranging a visit. A question or quote request is not a confirmed appointment.

Separate a suspected error from a confirmed one

A missing result does not, by itself, prove that the ORI is wrong. Compare the confirmed agency instruction with the receipt or submission information available from the provider. Ask the office to check its record rather than relying on memory of the appointment.

For DBPR applications, incorrect ORI information can prevent the department from receiving results. That is a reason to investigate routing, not evidence that every delay has the same cause.

Keep the information needed to investigate

Retain the appointment date, provider name, receipt, TCN and the instruction that supplied the intended ORI. Also keep any deficiency or rejection message. Describe exactly what the organization says is missing and when it checked.

If you have several receipts, identify which belongs to the disputed submission. Avoid mixing a personal FBI order with a Florida agency transaction. Send sensitive records only through a channel the receiving office confirms is appropriate; do not upload them to Guides.

Ask what the program requires next

The original provider can examine the transaction it handled; the requesting agency can explain what its application still requires. Ask whether a correction, a specific resubmission process or a new screening is needed in your case. Do not treat a generic directory entry as permission to repeat the order.

Confirm any new service charges before agreeing to work. This guide does not promise a free replacement, automatic refund or movement of results between agencies.

If you are considering a different provider

Give the new office the confirmed next-step instructions rather than asking it to recreate the earlier order from scratch. Oraz Fingerprinting can be contacted through the main website about a suitable new appointment once the required route is clear. The ORI reference page itself does not change an existing submission.

Questions about this topic

Can the ORI simply be changed after submission?

That cannot be promised. The original provider and requesting program must establish what action is available for the transaction.

Does a new scan fix the original application automatically?

No. The new request must follow the correct instructions, and the agency still needs to receive and review the relevant results.

Will I have to pay again?

Any new charges depend on the reason for the problem, the required action and the provider’s applicable policy. Confirm them before ordering.
